Meet the Founders: Mary-Louise and Lisa

Tennis with heart, purpose, and a touch of sparkle

Queens of Aces was born courtside—founded by friends Mary-Louise Battilana and Lisa Leonard, who were simply looking for something fun, social, and just a little stylish to break up their busy weeks. What started as casual doubles with friends quickly transformed into a vibrant women’s tennis community redefining what it means to play, connect, and belong.

Our Why

We created Queens of Aces because we couldn’t find the kind of tennis experience we craved: inclusive, welcoming, and just plain fun. No judgment. No pressure. Just a space where women of all ages and levels could move, laugh, and feel truly themselves.

We didn’t set out to change the system—but yes, we’ve ruffled a few feathers along the way. And we’re proud of that. We’re not reinventing tennis—we’re reinventing how it feels to show up and play.

Our Vision

To build a tennis culture that’s equal parts connection, movement, and joy. From our weekly sessions to our luxe destination retreats, everything we do is about creating space for women to feel confident, inspired, and celebrated—on and off the court.

Our Challenges

Yes, we’ve had our fair share of “Why would you do it that way?”

But we kept going. Because we believe women deserve more than a hit and run—they deserve a community.

What’s Next?

More events. More retreats. More ways to say yes to joy.

We’re expanding our reach, deepening our community partnerships (like our ongoing support for Bayside Women’s Shelter), and continuing to bring the Queens energy to new places—including, soon, international retreats.

A Few Things We Believe In

  • Serving aces (and Aperols)
  • Friendship over formality
  • Confidence isn’t optional—it’s essential
  • Tennis is for everyone
